1. General Instructional Objectives (教育目標)
Advanced English is an independent study course for
seniors. The course has two primary goals:
- Students will improve their English language proficiency
in otpics that interest them.
- Students will will increase their motivation to use English for their own purposes.
- Students will develop learning strategies that enable them
to continue to learn and use English independently.
2. Specific Behavioral Objectives (個別課題)
- Plan an English language study course for the semester.
- Locate and select texts and other materials in English.
- Use English regularly.
- Study autonomously (independently).
- Evaluate learning progress.
3. Learning Strategies (教育・学習の方法)
This is an independent study course.
Students will attend an orientation meeting, but there are no
required weekly class meetings. Students will determine their
own objectives, select their own English language materials, and
study individually or in groups that they establish. The
instructor will be available for consultation, but students will
be responsible for their own learning.
- Orientation: Students
will receive an Advanced English
Orientation, which will include detailed
procedures and recommendations.
- Materials: Students will select their own
learning materials. The instructor and other English Department
faculty members will make recommendations, but students will be
responsible for their selections.
- Internet: An Advanced English Web
site will include course information, blank forms, and other
materials. A mailing list will be used for
announcements.
- Consultations: The instructor will be available
for consultation at scheduled times and by appointment. Students are
responsible for scheduling consultations.
- Reports:
Each student shall submit her own Study Plan, three Reports,
and a Self-evaluation.
Class Preparation
Each student will follow her own Advanced English Plan and
prepare monthly reports. The instructor will be available for
consultation. Students should check KNDU e-mail (Active!
mail) for announcements at least once a week.
4. Evaluation (評価方法)
Grades:
There are no numerical grades. Students will be given credit
(Pass) upon
satisfactory completion of all reports.
5. Schedule (授業予定)
- Advanced English Orientation will be held during
Orientation Week. Those who are absent must arrange to meet
one or more times with the instructor. Required assignments
will be due att ehend of each month:
- April: Study Plan
- May: Progress Report 1
- June: Progress Report 2
- July: Progress Report 3
- July: Self-Evaluation
6. Other Information (その他)
- Students are encouraged to consult with the instructor or other
English Department teachers regarding their goals, plans, and
progress.
- Students will use their KNDU e-mail (Active! mail) accounts for all
e-mail communication with the instructor.
