Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC)

Term: One semester, 2 credits
Students: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors
Text: Tutorials and reference materials are on the CMC class Web site.
1. General Instructional Objectives (教育目標)
Students will learn to use the global Internet as a medium of
communication in English. Topics include Internet technologies,
legal and social issues, and writing skills. Each student will
maintain a weekly Web log (blog) in English.
2. Specific Behavioral Objectives (個別課題)
- Use the Internet safely and responsibly.
- Understand legal and ethical issues.
- Edit XHTML and CSS source files with Emacs.
- Create accessible Web pages in English.
- Use photographs and other media appropriately.
3. Learning Strategies (教育・学習の方法)
- We will meet in a Unix or Linux computer lab.
- Students will maintain English Web portfolios.
- Homework: reading (e-mail, Web), preparing blogs.
- All necessary resources will be on the Web.
Class preparation:
- Read e-mail and CMC Web pages.
- Prepare blog texts, photos, etc.
4. Evaluation (評価方法)
Grades: participation (30%), Web logs (70%).
