Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC)

Students: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors
Text: Tutorials and reference materials are on the CMC class Web site.

1. General Instructional Objectives (教育目標)

Students will learn to use the global Internet as a medium of communication in English. Topics include Internet technologies, legal and social issues, and writing skills. Each student will maintain a weekly Web log (blog) in English.

2. Specific Behavioral Objectives (個別課題)

  1. Use the Internet safely and responsibly.
  2. Understand legal and ethical issues.
  3. Edit XHTML and CSS source files with Emacs.
  4. Create accessible Web pages in English.
  5. Use photographs and other media appropriately.

3. Learning Strategies (教育・学習の方法)

  1. We will meet in a Unix or Linux computer lab.
  2. Students will maintain English Web portfolios.
  3. Homework: reading (e-mail, Web), preparing blogs.
  4. All necessary resources will be on the Web.

Class preparation:

  1. Read e-mail and CMC Web pages.
  2. Prepare blog texts, photos, etc.

4. Evaluation (評価方法)

Grades: participation (30%), Web logs (70%).
