2025 JES 小学校英語教育学会
2025年度小学校英語教育学会（JES）の東北・秋田大会が国際教養大学で開催されました。2020年に小学校5・6年生の英語が正式に教科化され、3・4年生には外国語活動が新たに導入されてから、今年で5年目を迎えます。2018年からの2年間の移行措置期間を含めると、すでに7年が経過したことになります。
The 2025 Tohoku/Akita Conference of the Japan Association for English Teaching in Elementary Schools (JES) was held at Akita International University. This year marks the fifth year since English became a formal subject for fifth and sixth graders and foreign language activities were newly introduced for third and fourth graders in 2020. Including the two-year transitional period that began in 2018, it has now been seven years.
今回の大会では、従来の指導方法や実践に関する発表に加え、生成AIに関する発表も行われました。大会には、大学の教職課程で外国語（英語）指導法を担当する教員や、小学校現場で実践研究を行う先生方が参加されていました。
At this conference, there were presentations not only on traditional teaching methods and classroom practices but also on the use of generative AI. Participants included university faculty members who teach foreign language (English) teaching methods in teacher training courses, as well as teachers conducting practical research in elementary schools.
中でも、私が特に興味深く拝聴したのは「生成AIは英語教育をどう変えるのか：小学校教員のための理解と応用」という発表でした。また、基調講演「英語教育の“当然”を見直す — 真に英語教育改革を進めるために必要なこと」では、これからの小学校英語教育に多くの示唆をいただき、学ぶことが非常に多い内容でした。
Among the presentations, I was particularly interested in one titled “How Will Generative AI Change English Education? Understanding and Applications for Elementary School Teachers.” In addition, the keynote lecture, “Re-examining What We Take for Granted in English Education: What Is Truly Needed to Promote Real Reform,” offered many valuable insights for the future of English education in elementary schools. It was a truly informative and inspiring experience.
大自然に囲まれた広大なキャンパス内では、Building AからDへの移動も大変でした。しかし、その途中、Building Dの前では、おばあちゃんが秋田名物「ババヘラアイス」の実演販売をしていました。目の前であっという間にバラの形を作り上げる様子は、とても見事でした。
「頑張ってこれを作ると、みんなが『すごい！』と褒めてくれるのがとても嬉しくて、やりがいを感じるんです」とおっしゃるおばあちゃんの言葉には、心を打たれました。改めて、「褒める」ということが教育においてもとても大切だと再認識する機会となりました。
Surrounded by beautiful nature, the vast campus made it quite challenging to move from Building A to Building D. However, in front of Building D, there was an elderly woman giving a live demonstration of Akita famous Baba Hera Ice Cream. Watching her skillfully create a rose-shaped ice cream right before our eyes was truly impressive. She said with a smile, “When I work hard to make these, everyone praises me, saying ‘Amazing!’ That makes me so happy and gives me a real sense of purpose.” Her words left a strong impression on me and reminded me once again of the importance of praise in education.
