Basic Studies: December Class 2

In our December Basic Studies class, we discussed elementary education together. We first looked back on the English education we experienced in Japanese elementary schools and then reviewed the new English education program that started in 2020.

This year, our class includes students from diverse international backgrounds, so we also learned about elementary English education in other countries. One student introduced English education in both public and private elementary schools in Myanmar. Another student explained the education system in Vietnam, which is quite different from that of Japan. We also listened to a student who had studied English in an elementary school in South Korea, and their experience attracted strong interest from all classmates.

本授業では、初等教育について多角的に検討を行った。まず、受講生自身が小学校段階で経験した英語教育を振り返るとともに、2020年度より新たに開始された小学校英語教育の概要について整理した。今年度は国際的に多様な背景をもつ受講生が在籍していることから、各国における初等段階の英語教育についても報告を行った。具体的には、ミャンマーにおける私立および公立小学校の英語教育の実践について紹介がなされたほか、日本とは異なる特徴をもつベトナムの教育制度についても報告があった。また、韓国で小学校英語教育を受けた学生による体験談は、受講生全体の高い関心を集めた。
